The current glittering exhibition at the Harris Museum and Art Gallery, The Big Honeypot, showcases work by Preston based artist, Lisa Ashcroft.
Much of Ashcroft's bright and vivacious work is influenced by time she spent in America on a fine art fellowship at New York School of Art. There are many obvious references to her experiences in the States, for example, popular culture, comic strips and the kitsch (Superhero).
Ashcroft experiments with a number of different techniques and styles. Work such as Monkey Business and Pink Cups are representational with flat fields of colour, predominantly in acrylic. Other painting (eg. Striptease, Fluffer) are more abstract- with paint poured and dribbled onto the canvas. The artist also combines many different media- including oil, gloss and acrylic paints with varnish, glitter, beads, stitching, sequins and other haberdashery.
From ironically cute to spellbindlingly tactile this compelling exhibition has proved popular with visitors to the Harris Museum and Art Gallery who are attracted by the luscious colours and sumptuous textures.
Lisa Ashcroft is a preston based artist. She has exhibited throughout the UK and in Chicago, New York, Cyprus, Barcelona and Copenhagen. Forthcoming exhibitions include the View Gallery in Liverpool, the A.R.C. Gallery in Manchester.
The Harris Museum and Art Gallery is open Monday- Saturday from 10am - 5pm and admission is free. For further information please contact:
